During the last Financial Year i.e. 2016-17, Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) recovered an amount of Rs. 2411 Crores towards Central Excise Duty and Service Tax, which was unpaid to the Government Exchequer.

The Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificates is announced annually in two categories of "exceptionally meritorious services rendered at the "risk of life" and "specially distinguished record of service." The said awards were introduced in the year 1962 to give recognition to officers of Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, Enforcement and Narcotics wings of the Department. Every year on the occasion of Republic Day various officers of DGCEI have been continuously selected for the Presidential Award for "Specially Distinguished Record of Service", which shows their dedication and devotion to their duty.
